St Gallen Toastmasters Club

St Gallen Toastmasters is a lively, youthful chapter of Toastmasters International. Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters’ structured system helps to improve public speaking, listening and presentation skills; eliminate the fear of public speaking; and foster confidence and leadership in a highly supportive and fun environment.

The St. Gallen club of international members, works primarily in English with German options. Most members are not native English speakers.  The club members include interesting students and members of the surrounding community.  With our mix of skilled and new members you will find excellent opportunities to give speeches regularly and enjoy the benefits of good feedback and full participation.

The club has an annual membership fee. The first three meetings are free, to make sure that you love what we have to offer.

The Toastmasters Mission
A statement of shared values

Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:

We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater selfconfidence and personal growth..

Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.

How does it work?

Everyone in a Toastmasters meeting was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced programme allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment.

  • A typical club has between 20 to 40 members who meet either weekly, biweekly or monthly. A meeting normally lasts around 90- 120 minutes.
  • There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations, pointing out the strengths and suggesting improvements. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Members also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop their leadership skills.
  • We learn through the Toastmasters Pathways learning experience, an exciting, flexible and interactive way to develop your skills and help others in your club develop theirs. Pathways helps you learn communication and leadership skills that you need to succeed. It gives you:

    • The opportunity to build  up to 300 unique competencies
    • 10 specialized learning paths to choose from
    • Online content, so that you can learn anytime, anywhere
    • Real-world, transferable skills

One thing that you'll love at Toastmasters meetings is the applause. At first you'll be applauded for your effort; later you'll be applauded for your skill.
